Buffalo Bills vs Los Angeles Rams prediction and recent form
Josh Allen's Bills arrive at SoFi Stadium as one of the NFL's most dangerous offenses and one of its most erratic. Buffalo leads the league at 31.8 points per game, yet its only loss came in a 29-26 defeat to New England that featured another run of giveaways. The Los Angeles Rams are slight favorites at home, and the question is whether they can turn Buffalo's carelessness into a lead before Allen's talent makes the point moot.
The recent form is split. Allen opened the season with nine touchdowns and no interceptions across the first two games, then threw three picks in the last two and accounts for five of Buffalo's seven turnovers in that stretch. One bad stretch can overstate the decline: his ability to create with his legs hasn't gone anywhere, and he has run for three scores over those two games. Still, his accuracy numbers have slipped to 13th or worse in the league through four weeks, so the pickier read is that the floor has dropped even if the ceiling hasn't.
Los Angeles is 2-2 and has been harder to read. The Rams rallied for a 24-20 win at Philadelphia after losing a 30-26 shootout to Denver in Week 3. Matthew Stafford has been busy, with 1,189 passing yards, fourth in the league, and 106 attempts across the last two games. He has also thrown at least one interception in four straight starts and has six on the season. That volume is a symptom of how these games have gone as much as a strategy, and a more balanced day from Kyren Williams and Blake Corum would take pressure off him.
The decisive matchup is Stafford against Buffalo's coverage. The Bills play zone at one of the higher rates in the league, and Stafford's numbers against zone have been below his usual standard. That is also where Buffalo's secondary is under strain: Christian Benford (toe) and Dee Alford (ankle) are both questionable, and the unit has struggled in recent weeks. If either corner sits, Puka Nacua and the Rams' route-runners will find soft spots underneath. The Bills are also watching Ed Oliver (knee) and TJ Sanders along the interior, so the pass rush that usually helps their defense may be thinner than usual.
Head-to-head and tactical matchup
On the other side, DJ Moore (shoulder) has missed practice time and is questionable. Without him, Buffalo leans on Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, which is workable but narrows the target tree for an offense that has been turning the ball over. The roof at SoFi removes weather from the equation, so execution and ball security will decide it. That favors the team that holds onto the football.
History points to points. The last meeting went to the Rams 44-42, and games in this series have averaged 58.2 combined points. The market total of 54.5 reflects that, though our projection sits a little lower and the number is close enough that we have no lean on it. The spread of Rams -3 sits almost exactly where our margin lands, so there is no lean there either.
The Rams are the more likely winner, with a home edge and a better matchup against the zone-heavy defense Stafford will face. That is a modest advantage rather than a commanding one. Buffalo's ceiling means a close game can break either way late, and the moneyline price on Los Angeles is short enough that the margin for error is thin.
